18. KAUAI, HAWAII
Kauai is a perfect Spring Break destination due to its beautiful scenery, perfect weather, and many wonderful things to do! This Hawaiian island is known for its laid-back vibe with plenty of amazing places to explore.
While plenty of Kauai is rugged and adventurous, most of it is perfect for traveling families of younger or older children. The beaches are the perfect place to play in the sand and splash in the waves. Poipu Beach on the South Shore and Anini Beach on the North Shore are both great options due to their shallow entry, shady beaches, restroom and picnic facilities, and easy parking and access. Lydgate Park has a rock wall cove that is a fantastic option for the youngest children and a calm place to practice snorkeling for beginners of all ages. The large wooden playground across the street is an added bonus!
Check out the Farmer’s Market to try new tropical fruits and drink from a coconut! Miniature golf in the Botanical Garden in Princeville, Shave Ice from Uncle’s, and the Smith Family Luau will also be the highlights on any Kauai itinerary. Take advantage of the time change and head to Shipwreck beach for sunrise. Adventurous families enjoy Koloa Zipline in Kauai, while the Kauai ECO Adventure Helicopter Tour makes them admire the mind-blowing beauty of Kauai.
To get to Kauai, visitors will fly into Lihue Airport. The flight distance from the mainland west coast is about 5-6 hours, or visitors can take a short flight from other Hawaiian islands if they are island hopping.
The island of Kauai is not too large, so all activities mentioned can be accessed within an hour or two no matter where visitors choose to stay. For Spring Break, it is recommended to stay on the South Shore due to higher chances of rain on the North Shore. The Sheraton Kauai Resort and the Grand Hyatt Kauai are both exceptional options with many family-friendly amenities and amazing pools.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a must-see in a lifetime! This notorious family-friendly event happens over the two weeks before Fat Tuesday, right in the middle of spring. The closer you book to Fat Tuesday itself, the bigger and more vibrant you’ll find the parades.
New Orleans is great for families because there is so much free and varied entertainment to enjoy. From the talented dancers to the colorful krewes and performers, you will never be short of something fun for the kids. There’s so much on offer it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Popular krewes to look out for are Orpheus, Bacchus, and Endymion who have the most spectacular floats and the best throws. Join New Orleans Mardi Gras Walking Tour to get valuable insights into New Orleans’s culture and learn about voodoo rituals, haunted history, pirate legends, etc.
As the carnival happens during Spring you might be wondering what to pack for Mardi Gras. If you want to catch and keep the doubloons thrown from the floats, then join the other families by taking nets and big bags for all your swag.
When not enjoying the parades consider visiting the harbor and taking your children on a Swamp Boat Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour from New Orleans
To get to New Orleans you fly to the New Orleans International Airport. It is easy to then catch a subway from there to the French Quarter or to book a cab.
The French Quarter is the most popular area to stay during Mardi Gras but also the most intense. If you have young children then avoid Bourbon Street should in the evening as this area is full of revelers partying in the clubs and streets all night long.

Easter is one of the most important holidays in the country and Riviera Maya is a great place to celebrate this famous festival in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Riviera Maya is among the most popular spring break destinations. It is a popular vacation spot for those who like to snorkel. Kids will love discovering the diverse underwater world of the Caribbean Sea. Spotting turtles and colorful fishes will be a fun activity for the whole family.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is one of the best spring break destinations for families. With its beaches, food, and great weather, it’s a great spot to have fun and unwind. Plus, if you’re traveling on a budget, there are a lot of free things to do in Puerto Vallarta.
For some fun in the sun, head over to Playa Los Muertos. It’s a popular beach near the iconic Los Muertos Pier.
If you’d like a more low-key beach, however, visit Playa Olas Altas. It’s just south of where the Rio Cuale empties into the bay. It’s smaller but much less crowded.
Families will also enjoy exploring Isla Cuale. It’s a cute island in the middle of the Rio Cuale that has a few restaurants and a flea market where you’ll find all kinds of Mexican crafts. Of course, you should also visit ChocoMuseo Puerto Vallarta. Upstairs you’ll find a small exhibit with the history of chocolate and downstairs you’ll find a large variety of chocolate items. From the airport to Puerto Vallarta, you can take a shuttle airport transfer, a taxi, or Uber which will take about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic and what neighborhood you’re staying in.

22. PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO
Riviera Maya in general tops the list of the best spring break destinations in Mexico.
However, Playa del Carmen is a great place to base yourself to explore more of the Yucatan Peninsula, but it’s also the perfect place to check into an all-inclusive resort and simply relax on the beach or at your hotel for a week. This makes PDC a great place for families since different family members can tailor their experience to their needs.
Families will, of course, want to spend time together relaxing in the water and playing in the sand. But for those looking for some history and culture, there’s a lot to explore nearby. Popular excursions from Playa del Carmen include seeing the Mayan ruins of Tulum, Chichen Itza, or Coba. You can also visit local cenotes, take a day trip to visit Cozumel island, go on a boat ride, visit the MUSA underwater museum, and more. Of course, you’ll want to spend some time experiencing the lively downtown as well as seeing it come alive at night. Most restaurants in PDC are kid-friendly, and you will see many families traveling together.
You can get to Playa del Carmen by flying into Cancun or Cozumel.
If you fly into Cancun and you will need car seats for your kiddos, you will want to pre-book a shuttle to your accommodations and reserve the appropriate car seats.
If you fly into Cozumel, you will take a taxi to the ferry and take the ferry to PDC. From the ferry terminal in PDC, you will take a taxi to your destination. Both routes take time to navigate from the airport to Playa del Carmen, but it’s worth the little bit of extra time to get to this slice of paradise!
There are many types of accommodations in PDC, from all-inclusive resorts to budget hotels. We stayed in the budget-friendly Hotel San Vicente. If you look for a resort, keep your eye on the rules, as some resorts in PDC are adults-only.

This private island is owned by Renaissance Hotel, and families staying outside of the resort can also get day passes to visit. Families are allowed to visit the flamingo side of the island between 9-10 am and enjoy the birds early in the day. Afterward, head over to Iguana Island, the other side, where the action really is! 28. ST JOHN ISLAND IN THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS
St. John Island in the US Virgin Islands is one of the best spring break destinations for families looking for fun, adventure, and the allure of aquamarine-tinted water.
The US Virgin Islands comprises three verdant islands: St. John, St. Croix, and St.Thomas. Each offers its own appeal, but St. John stands out for being slower-paced and less touristy. With over 60% of the island a National Park, St. John is ideal for families looking for a peaceful respite and time spent in undeveloped, pristine nature.
The best things to do in St. John with kids revolve around playing in the calm, crystal-clear water. It’s an excellent spot to learn how to snorkel, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard. Families will love checking out the Underwater Snorkel Trail at Trunk Bay. It’s a self-guided trail with informative plaques that teach you about native ocean life. Next, you’ll want to drive to Maho Bay to spot turtles in their natural habitat. Maho Bay is a calm, family-friendly beach with bathrooms, food, and covered picnic tables. The sea turtles are often found in the middle of Maho Bay, munching on seagrass. For families who want a little more adventure, spend a day hiking the Reef Bay Trail. It’s a 4.4-mile out-and-back trail with a 40-foot waterfall, petroglyphs, and sugar plantation ruins.
With no airport on the island, you’ll need to fly to St.Thomas and then take a 20-minute ferry ride to St. John. While you can rent a car on St. Thomas, it’s much easier to take the pedestrian ferry and rent a car in St. John.
While many people choose to stay in Great Cruz Bay, families will love the Westin St. John Resort Villas for their big rooms and quiet private beach. Located on Cruz Bay, there is a kid’s center, a pool, a playground, beach rentals, and a slew of cats, roosters, and iguanas that roam the property. The Dominican Republic has seven airports located along the coast and close to the main tourist destinations. There are approximately 43 non-stop flights from the U.S. on 8 different airlines. Punta Cana is the most popular and highest-trafficked airport in the country. We highly recommend flying here, not only because Punta Cana is a great place for families to vacation with so much to offer, but the airport itself is extremely kid friendly. PUJ offers rides, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, and even a swimming pool for families to enjoy while they wait for their flights.
Deciding where to stay in the Dominican Republic will depend on your budget and travel style. It is good to know, that the Dominican Republic is the cheapest Caribbean island to visit. However, the country has something to suit every pocket. For those looking to relax on the beach and find an all-inclusive resort, then Punta Cana will give you the best options.
